At PDO in Oman, Gil was in charge of the Lower Paleozoic Stratigraphy in the GeoSolutions team, providing scientific guidance to the company's PalyLab. Well litho- and biostratigraphic correlations were regular workflows using ODM and StrataBugs software and working with outcrop, core, and wellbore cuttings data.

Currently, Gil is the technical manager at Chronosurveys - a geological consulting company providing services in biostratigraphy, paleoenvironmental interpretation and source rock. Chronosurveys’ experience encompasses sedimentary basins worldwide, including Canada, USA, Oman, Portugal, Abu Dhabi, North Sea, Namibia, West Africa, among other regions. Gil is also involved in regional hydrocarbon prospectivity studies.

His past and current activities include mentoring and training, from academic projects (undergraduate and MSc theses) to designing and delivering professional training courses. These include hands-on practice, be it interpreting seismic lines and characterizing hydrocarbon plays and prospects, extracting relevant information from biostratigraphy reports or using the microscope to analyze microfossils.

Gil has a passion for fieldwork and history. Those two have come together in historical-geological tours he offers around Lisbon, Portugal. He likes to explore how Geology influences the way cities were built and destroyed, the availability of resources, the local mythology and economic activities.
