RESUMEN
Los procesos de Captura y Almacenamiento de CO2 (CCS) llevan una porción apreciable de las metas globales de decarbonización a definidas por el Acuerdo de París de 2015, vinculante para los países firmantes, incluidos los de la región Latinoamericana.
En este contexto, el Almacenamiento Geológico de Carbono implica inyectar volúmenes colosales de dióxido de carbono en estado supercrítico en formaciones geológicas naturales del subsuelo: son proceso caros, complejos y retadores sobre los que la industria y la academia de nuestros países tienen una dilatada experiencia, tanto en visualización y manejo de espacio geológico como en protección ambiental y mitigación de los riesgos asociados .
La charla visita los fundamentos del almacenamiento y utilización de CO2 en el subsuelo, destacando la oportunidad que podrían empezar a aprovechar nuestros países, en términos de creación de industria y empleo y aprovechamiento comercial y posicionamiento geopolítico derivables de este importante componente de la Transición Energética.
ABSTRACT
Industrial processes for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) bear a sizeable proportion of the global decarbonization targets defined by the 2015 Paris Agreement, signed by all countries in the Latinamerican region.
In this context, CCS implies injecting colosal volumes of supercritical CO2 into subsurface geological formations: a capital-intensive and challenging process that applies subsurface visualization and multiple industrial applications widely known and applied in our countries by both industry and academia for decades now.
The talk visits the fundamentals of CO2 geological storage and utilization with an emphasis on a the opportunity that our countries could at this point begin to capitalize in this Energy Transition context, with favorable impacts for economy, industry and geopolitical positioning.
